The beginning
Our work began at the University of Helsinki, where Alejandro García Pérez and Professor Edward Hæggström discovered that magnetohydrodynamics could extract interstitial fluid without breaking the skin — forming the foundation of Sofio’s needle-free glucose monitoring technology.
This is the first time in more than 25 years that a new platform technology has been introduced in this domain.

- Professor of Applied Physics with decades of experience in medical technologies and sensor systems
- Worked at Harvard & Stanford
- Created multiple high tech innovations that are used in highly regulated industries (medtech, pharma, defense+space)

CEO
- Drives commercialization and scaling, with leadership experience from Oracle, Deloitte, Nokia and Microsoft
Zhanna Boeva
Sensor Lead
- Adjunct professor, biosensors and polymers
- Develops Sofio’s biosensor platform, with deep expertise in electrochemistry and materials science
- In addition to her long career in academia, Zhanna has delivered earlier major industrial programs to certain global corporations
Harri Palomäki
Manufacturing & Ops Lead
- Responsible for building and scaling global high-volume manufacturing and supply chain for the biosensor and transmitter
- Harri has previously built and developed high-volume operations across Europe for Eurofins, ThermoFisher and ABB
Reeta Saukkonen
QARA Lead
- Licensiate in biomedical engineering
- Responsible for regulatory strategy, compliance systems, and quality assurance
